Silver Fox Employee Spotlight: Jessamyn Wolff

Jessamyn Wolff (Jess, for short) has grown up at Silver Fox. She began working for the restaurant in November of 2015 when she was just 16 years old. At first, she was just looking for a means to buy a car. But in the ensuing eight years, she found something else…she found a family.

We know, we know. “When you’re here, you’re family” is somebody else’s catchphrase. It’s become a cliche. But at Silver Fox, it’s actually true. The men and women who work here aren’t just coworkers. They’re friends. They babysit for each other. They spend their time off together. They pick each other up when they’ve fallen down. They’re family.

And the people who patronize Silver Fox? They’re not just customers. They, too, are family. That’s one of the things that made Jess fall in love with this place – the people. She said she enjoys spending time with her friends and family at work, and she really enjoys being a part of peoples’ big celebrations. Silver Fox is the perfect spot to spend a birthday, or an anniversary. But it’s also great for just a regular old Saturday night on the town. It doesn’t just need to be a place to celebrate special occasions. Going to Silver Fox, in and of itself, is a special occasion.

Jess has grown up at Silver Fox and she’s spent the last eight years making a myriad of memories. We wanted to learn more about her, so we sat down over some Bacon Knots and asked her some of our favorite questions.

Name: Jessamyn Wolff

Nickname:

Jess. My mom read a book when she was, like, 13 and was just like, ‘I wanna name my future kid that.’ So, she did. Luckily, it has a good nickname, which is way easier.

Where’d you grow up?

I’m born and raised in Casper!

Why are you in Casper?

I’ve thought about leaving for, like, college or whatever, just to get the experience. But then I started a family and it’s just, personally, I think it’s a great place to raise a family. And I have friends here, and a good job working at The Fox and I just haven’t wanted to leave yet.

How long have you worked at Silver Fox?

I started in November of 2015, so almost 8 years! I did leave for a little over a year after I had my daughter, but then I came right back!

Favorite thing about working with Chef Bernard?

He always teases me. You never know what’s going to come out of his mouth, but like, in the best way. He’s just always joking with me and we just have a great relationship in that way. He always makes me laugh, but also, you don’t always know that he knows what’s going on in your life, but he knows what’s going on in everybody’s life. He’s always paying attention, even if it doesn’t seem like it. He might just randomly come up and be like, ‘Hey, how’s blah blah blah?’ And you would have no idea that he even knew about it, because he’s always paying attention.

Best thing about your job?

It’s definitely the family aspect of it. In my opinion, there’s no other place like it. I go there, and that’s where my friends are. I’ve created these really great friendships there and I know that no matter what – what day or who’s scheduled – I’m gonna have somebody there that is one of my best friends; especially Bernard and Gina. They would do anything for you. I look up to them, almost like parents.

I also love getting to be a part of people’s special events. We have a lot of regulars that come here and they tell you about what’s happening in their life, and they know what’s happening in yours. And people celebrating their special occasions here and being able to make those the best experiences for them – that’s my favorite part.

Favorite dish to Serve at Silver Fox?

The Blackened Prime Rib!

Favorite dish to EAT at Silver Fox?

Definitely also the Blackened Prime Rib, and the Fried Lobster.

What do you do in your spare time?

In summer, I like to go to the lake and go camping. During winter, I don’t do much. Sometimes, I go to Colorado and Wisconsin to visit family. I like to bake cookies and cakes with my daughter. She loves to decorate all of the cookies, and of course loves frosting.

Goal for yourself in 5 years?

I’d like to buy a house. I’m really working towards buying a house and things for my daughter. And I’d just like to keep finding my next passions in life.

Favorite superhero?

Batman.

Best advice anyone has ever given you?

“Don’t look where you’re at; look ahead of you.” They say that in rodeo all the time, and I know it sounds silly but with barrel racing, you’re not looking at where you’re at; you’re looking ahead of you. But in life, to me, it means even if where you’re at right at this second isn’t good, or it’s hard, just look at what’s coming next and it will probably be better.

What made you want to start working at Silver Fox? What’s the story behind you coming here?

I had just turned 16. I actually applied before I was 16. And I wanted to get a job to help pay for a car and all of the other things that go along with being a teenager. So I applied at Silver Fox and a coffee shop. And I got the job right away at Silver Fox. I was really scared to meet with Gina, but honestly, it was the best choice I ever could have made.

I’ve done just about everything here. I started as a busser. I’ve hosted. I’m now a server. I’ve done stuff back in the office. I’ve helped with some of the prep work. I’ve literally done everything here!

What is it about Silver Fox that makes it stand out amongst its competitors?

I think it’s the family aspect between the employees and with the customers. Like, we recognize so many people and it feels really welcoming to people when they come in. I think there’s a few other restaurants in town that also have great food, but we have the experience. From when you walk in the door to when you walk out, it feels like you’re here with us. And I think other people feel that family aspect too when they’re here.

If you could tell people one thing about Silver Fox, what would it be?

Get the bacon knots!
